Is it Saturday yet?

I can't wait until this week is over. If I never see another hanger, card stock tag, price sticker and safety pins after Saturday, I'll be a very happy girl.

A couple of months ago, I decided to get a table in the annual in the Kids Giant Garage Sale, hosted by the Ottawa Chapter of the La Leche League Canada. On Friday, I spent three hours sorting and folding clothes before inserting them in plastic bags before labeling them. And I wasn't even done. A couple of hours here and a couple of hours there, I think I see the light at the end of the tunnel. However, I still have yet to sort through toys. God help me.

So the insanity continues. However, I hoping this venture pays off as it is time to clear house of a good portion of baby clothes. While I like the thought of keeping darling daughter's clothes for a possible second child, I'm trying to be realistic. I have no idea if or when child number two comes along. Plus, I can't keep hoarding Rubbermaid bins of clothes in my basement. I'm running out of room. So it is time to say goodbye.

However, dear husband doesn't make it easy. "Do you want to give that away?" he asked while I was tagging a footless sleeper last night."She really looked cute in that."

"Yeah," I replied. "Did you think she looked cute when you were swearing under your breath, wondering how to get her in it?"

The conversation soon ended and there were no further remarks from the peanut gallery.

So my kitchen looks like a closet and I'm tired of pinning tags onto clothes. I can't wait for Saturday to come and go. I may tear up when selling darling daughter's clothes, but my basement will thank me.

I'll take what I can get

With winter around the corner, I've got to stock up on sleepers, a staple in any toddler's wardrobe. Today, I had to make a trip to Costco. Several months ago, I blogged about Costco raising its prices on Pekkle sleepers. At one time, they were sold for $7.49. In March, they jacked up the price to $9.49, a $2 difference. I, and some other mothers I know, weren't happy with the price increase. Well, imagine my surprise today when I saw a sign above the sleepers, stating they were $7.99 each.

I'm not too sure when Costco lowered the price on its sleepers. Maybe it happened months ago, or maybe it happened more recently. Regardless, I'm glad that I can get Pekkle sleepers cheaper than I could back last spring. Although the company didn't lower the price to $7.49, I'll take what I can get. So thanks, Costco for lowering your prices. Every little helps. I got to keep track of every penny, especially now with the provincial government set to introduce a harmonized sales tax next summer.

Costco, you are making me rethink my membership . . .

In these hard economic times, you would think retailers would be trying to lure consumers into their stores with cheaper prices, not discourage them with price increases. However, Costco has quietly raised some of its prices on some of its baby products, namely Pekkle sleepers. I love Pekkle sleepers. Not only are they cute, good quality sleepers, they once were cheap as in $7.49 cheap. I couldn't believe my eyes when dear husband and I stumbled upon them a couple of months before darling daughter was born. We bought more sleepers after she grew out of her size six month sleepers.

When I heard that Costco was having a sale on sleepers, I was excited. The possiblity of buying sleepers around $5 was very appealing. So after darling daughter was down for the night, I headed out to visit the big box giant.

However, my excitement of getting sleepers around $5 each was short lived as Costco has jacked the price of Pekkle sleepers to $9.49. That is a $2 difference. With the $1.50 coupon, the sleepers were 50 cents more than when I first started purchasing them. Plus, I could only get three sleepers with my coupon. I'm not impressed.

So if Costco is jacking up the prices on sleepers, what else have they raised the price on? I'm really rethinking about not renewing my membership in June. If I can get sleepers cheaper at Wal-Mart, why would I want to go to Costco. Sorry Costco, you get a big thumbs down. Other mothers are on to your price raising ways. So if I'm thinking of not renewing my membership, I'm sure others are thinking the same thing.
